Enjoy the mountains

Hikes of all levels and stunning views.

Lake Idro and its mountains offer walks of all lengths and levels of difficulty along paths that are easy for amateurs or more challenging for experts. The trails that start at Lake Idro are narrow and steep, but the panorama you get to see as you walk along them is of such beauty that you forget your fatigue.

The most popular trails are:

  • “Cascate” (waterfalls) that starts at the village of Crone (370 m) and reaches the summit of Perlè at an altitude of 1031 m.
  • “Dosso Sassello” (1006 m) with a panoramic route connecting the villages of Pieve Vecchia (370 m) and Anfo (370 m).
  • “Contrabbandieri” (smugglers) (400 m) which runs along the northeastern and wilder part of the lake and is the only connection between the villages of Vesta (370 m) and Baitoni (370 m).

A half-hour drive on the provincial road towards Crocedomini Pass (1985 m), through the mountains northwest of the lake, takes you to Gaver (1511 m), a well-known local ski resort in winter and a paradise for hikers from spring to autumn. From the Gaver plain, alpine lakes and refuges can be reached on trails of incomparable beauty.

Especially attractive are the walks to the ‘Lago della Vacca’ near the rifugio ‘Tita Secchi’ (2362 m) and to the ‘Laghetti di Bruffione’ (1888 m). Even more beautiful walks can be made in neighbouring Trentino, especially in the Val di Daone, a three-quarter-hour drive from Idro Lake, at the rifugio ‘Val di Fumo’ (1995 m), a walk for the whole family that is very popular, not only because it is easy to walk, but mainly because of the beauty of the landscape.

But these are just a few of the numerous excursions that can be made in the immediate surroundings of Lake Idro, all of which are well-signposted and easily reached in a few minutes by car.
